Ken’s got a new sword! It’s still a ridiculous size, but maybe more of a standard sized ‘oversized-anime-sword’. Either way, I wouldn’t want to be that tree (he’s still smarting from the treevenge).

I generally don’t collect figures seeing as how they tend to take up shelf space and not much else. Amiibos, I dunno, broke through my rigid ‘no figure’ policy and now I have a whole bunch of them. Although I refuse to spend more than retail price for any particular one so it’s it’s unlikely I’ll ever collect them all (nor am I sure I’d want to considering Nintendo’s making waaay too many of them). Anyway, I’ve moved, and I have some new shelf space to take up. I know Revoltech makes amazing figures, so I went to Amazon and typed in the brand name. Long story short, I added thirty figures to my wish list in about ten minutes and feel like I barely scratched the surface. the quality is THERE. I don’t know which ones I’ll pick up, I”ll probably get three, maybe four. I’m also really into the idea of having all these cool, super articulate figures to re-pose while I’m trying to distract myself from my busy schedule, that’d be a fun way to waste time when I should be working (but seriously, I don’t waste that much time)!

Now the question that’s going to be on everyone’s mind until the next major battle comes into play:

Will Ken continue to play ‘KADOOSH!’ with this much smaller sword?

    • Astralfury

I presume it will be ‘kadoosh.’ Now.

  • charles81

Another tree is about to suffer.

    • charles81

Actually I’m reminded of OoTS’s first page
      http://www.giantitp.com/comics/oots0001.html

      Weapon Shrinkage!

Hang on, Page 600. Maybe he’ll do something more awesome than fell a tree… Gods I hope he takes another crack at Matrix!

      • Xinef

And now Ken kills Matrix. Story ends. Happy ending.

  • Sunwu

Tree: Oh hi Ken what’s up??? have you lost weight? WOw is that a new sword?? K-ken?….You okay?

    • http://www.nn4b.com suburban_samurai

      The bark enrages him…

      • Charvale

        Silly trees won’t stop barking…

        Okay. I’m done.

  • Astralfury

If only her reply to his “there is nothing a ninja could say that would interest me” line was “I have a limited edition sword from your clan, do want?” Matrix could have gotten to this point faster.

    • Ryan

Yeah, but first she needed to convince him that his current sword was no good, or else he might have just tried to use both at once.

      • Kid Chaos

He still might do that…in fact, I’m counting on it!

  • IDPounder

That look on Ken’s face…it’s like all the Christmas presents evah all just showed up at once. Now, I wonder if he’s going to play nice with his new toy?

  • Leo

Is it literally red or is it like Ken’s old sword, which is only red because of light effects and blood he can’t quite wash away?

    • Kid Chaos

      It’s fire-and-ice red!

  • Flaming Squirrel

OMG, a Royal Guard Red Dragon Zambutou? That’s limited edition, only four were ever made! And it’s in mint condition! Holy crap, luckeeeeeeeeee!

    • Kid Chaos

It reminds me of Cloud’s BFS from “Final Fantasy”.

    • charles81

Makes me wonder what the Daimyo wielded

      • Flaming Squirrel

A dagger probably, seeing as how the blades get smaller as the authority gets bigger.

        • Xinef

And his wife wielded a toothpick or a needle. 😉

          • Flaming Squirrel

And with it she struck down her husband’s greatest enemy and dug the hole for the pacific ocean at the same time.

          • Xinef

Her name was most likely Mariana, considering that Mariana Trench was named after her.

One thing is clear – she was more powerful and influential than Genchu, considering that he (despite being partially Daisuke) wields normal sized swords.

          • Flaming Squirrel

Treebeard, obviously. A tree that can actually fight back!

  • Dusty Coyote

This is….. crouching Ken, hidden giant-bush-sword

  • Minando

Hmmm…the dragon is missing…but to look on the bright side, it´s half red already.
That means less time for cleaning, more time for chopping bits off !

  • prime_pm

“Boss! It’s a Hank Aaron model!”

  • leavescat

So… it IS the buster sword.

    • leavescat

I like how he’s examining it while holding it like one might hold a shortsword.

  • MadHatter084

Ken, you are TERRIBLE Zanpakuto (or Zanbatou) owner. Not only, that you didn’t name your lovely-swordy-baby, you even cheat on her with first giant sword you see. Shame on you, Ken!

    • Xinef

If they form a love triangle, it won’t be cheating. I guess.

      • http://www.nn4b.com suburban_samurai

Whoa now, this is getting complicated! Imagine how much manufactured melodrama we could get out of this subplot!

      • MadHatter084

Ask the Zanpakuto1, If she agrees with that. But as a woman a have to say: cheating is cheating.

  • Lady Courage

    NEW TOYS. YAAAAAAAAAAAAY.

I vote Alphonse! Because I always vote FMA. And I’m terribly curious to hear what that exact figure is like. It’s been on my wishlist for a year lol

    • MadHatter084

I’m with you at this one. All votes for FMA

  • http://siryouarebeingmocked.tumblr.com/ SYABM

No Need for Bushido Rising: Treevengeance.

Tree Wars, Episode V: The Forest Strikes Back

Episode VI: Return of the Forest

        • Kid Chaos

          Episode IV: A New Sapling

    • http://www.nn4b.com suburban_samurai

Ken’s about to go into blade mode and rip out that tree’s cybernetic spine.

  • Lauri Härö

It’s going to be good off hand sword for Ken. Dual swords for the win!

    • http://www.nn4b.com suburban_samurai

And he can hold a third zanbatou in his teeth for MAXIMUM SWORDAGE.

      • Astralfury

Would that mean Yori is going to become Pirate King?

  • leavescat

That sword is actually kinda confusing me. The tip is clearly constructed to have one cutting edge, but the hilt has a symmetrical diamond cross-section. Also, the back edge has red-tinted metal (for realzies, because it’s true in the shade as well), but it’s somehow purely on the surface because it doesn’t show up in the base.

  • Sam DunKley

Let’s do some thinking here. Ken was strong enough to get a fairly practical speed on a sword that has to weigh about four times what the Royal Guard Zanbato does. It was slow by the standards of speed-focused fighters like Yori and the Brothers WuTang, and superhumans like Nataku and (presumably) Matrix, but it was perfectly usable in pitched combat. Mostly because people’s brains sorta froze in terror when they realized how strong someone would have to be to lift the damn thing, but still.

Now he has a sword that could actually be used by a human being. (An exceptionally strong human being wielding it in two hands, but still.)

…that thing is going to slip out of his hands and go flying into a completely different tree the first time he swings it.

    • Flaming Squirrel

With all the extra strength he’ll have from not having to lift such a huge sword, I’m waiting for him to cause an earthquake next time he plays Kadoosh.

      • http://www.nn4b.com suburban_samurai

He kinda already caused earthquakes when he did kadoosh!

        http://nn4b.com/?webcomic1=368
http://nn4b.com/?webcomic1=445 (still love the hapless soldiers flying through the air)

        • Flaming Squirrel

I mean a REAL earthquake. Where the ground splits open, entire cities disappear into the depths of the earth, new oceans and mountains are created…

          • http://www.nn4b.com suburban_samurai

Ah, okay, we’ll try and work that in.

          • Flaming Squirrel

            Sweet!
Wait, did I just predict the ending of the comic?!

          • Brandenfascher

Setting: Christian Priest, Hindu Guru, and blind Cho are sitting together in a fine beverage establishment. Ken enters the scene, and sits at the bar across from them.

Ken to the fine beverage tender: “Gimme a keg and make it quick.”

Christian Priest, speaking to Ken: “Young man, do you tire of strong drink? If you listen, I have a message about a savior, that whoever shall believe him, would from flow rivers of living water.”

Ken to Priest: “‘Living waters’, huh? Is that some kind of fancy word for sake? Sure, I’m all for rivers of sake. I believe, gimme.”

Christian Priest: “N…no, not quite, it’s referring to the Spirit.”

Ken to Priest: “I do like drinking spirits, old man. I’m not opposed if you gimme some.”

Hindu Guru: “I believe his ‘spirits’ are less in the form of liquid.”

Ken, noticeably angry, retorting back to Priest and Guru: “Then whatch’a wasting my time for? I’ve got sake to wait for.”

Cho to Ken: “Sorry to bother you, little girl.”

*Suddenly, with the flash of metal striking the ground, the entire continent sinks into the ground*

          • Xinef

What about even more REAL earthquakes, where planets shatter into cosmic dust?

          • Flaming Squirrel

Those are caused by toothpicks and needles, remember?

          • Xinef

Nope, I don’t remember. Must have happened before I was born. I’m quite glad Earth-shattering earthquakes don’t happen very often as of lately.

          • Fullmetalpanic

Yeah sure you haven’t seen my ex gf yet XD

          • Fullmetalpanic

Nah you need to wear a cape and yell something bout birds and punches to split planets !

    • http://www.nn4b.com suburban_samurai

I would not want to be in the path of that flying blade. I should point out, though, that the new zanbatou’s hilt is wrapped for better grip.

      • Sam DunKley

…and the old one wasn’t? I was going in with that assumption.

        • http://www.nn4b.com suburban_samurai

Nah, the old one is just a long metal rod, the new one is more like a katana hilt. I just color them with the same dark maroon color to reduce color complexity.

          • Sam DunKley

Huh. Would not have wanted to be around when Ken was getting the hang of that.

Or before he realized that abrasive gloves are a useful thing.

          • http://www.nn4b.com suburban_samurai

To be fair, he does where those cool fingerless gloves! I’m sure he’s got callouses of steel.

          • Xinef

And do you want to hang around Ken now? I wouldn’t consider it safe either.

          • Fullmetalpanic

I’d rather be on his side though 😉

  • dude
    • http://www.nn4b.com suburban_samurai

This may be my favorite Zelda minigame of all time, since it makes you feel like a samurai badass.

  • http://myanimelist.net/profile/OrlahEhontas OrlahEhontas

Trying to figure out if he’s standing there measuring up that poor defenseless tree in front of him or if he’s wondering how to turn and face Matrix with the wet spot on the front of his pants…

  • Lenvoran

That new sword should result in a massive increase to the family joules.

  • Da’Zlein

Big, arguably sharp, slightly more useful than a giant log… yep, we’ll miss the old sword, but this new one looks pretty cool

  • Unhooked

“And you just left this lying on the ground?”

“Well, I had to get a dramatic reveal in this conversation somehow…”

  • Fullmetalpanic

Hm :/ I loved the engraving on his old sword…will seriously miss that…but the new one looks cool as well…can’t wait to see him try it out on something else than trees 😀

  • Hfar

Hmmm! Gotta be masterwork adamantium! Prime stuff right there!

  • Speedy Marsh

Niiiiice! Ken always wanted a dagger.

  • Neska

    It’s smaller, but I suppose it’s still big enough . . . especially if it’s made out of better steel . . .

  • http://insolenz.echoing.org/ SotiCoto

I still won’t buy Amiibos. I guess my “no figures policy” is stronger.

  • Ladon

Ok, I’ll say it. I’m sad. I really REALLY liked that comically oversized sword. Not only was it cool but while it was unwieldy in a duel, it was extremely effective at killing large amounts of people quickly. Far more effective than I can imagine this sword possibly being

    • http://www.nn4b.com suburban_samurai

Worry not! The giant zanbatou will most certainly return, and to great effect!

      • Ladon

        Fears: assuaged. Joy: returned.

  • lilanimefan

    Everyone is red themed here
    Seriously
    Except for the greenery
    They’re more green

  • Crestlinger

Perk of being a time hopping weapon collector is you can literally put the right sword in the right hands.

comic598 It's not even Ken's birthday!
