Joe has pointed out to me that Masuhiro may be the most eccentric character in the comic. He goes from stoic, empathetic leader to murderous, honor-bound psychopath to wacky, forgetful stooge at the flip of a switch. Who is the real Masuhiro? And who is the mask? WE MAY NEVER KNOW.
I don’t have too much else to say today! Although this video’s been making its rounds on the web and I found it very relevant to the comic:

In the year negative a Billion, Yorikiro Wataro might not have been here
but in the year positive sixteenhundred, he was there, and you could walk to him on a land bridge.
Rrrrrrricardo needs to turn Dutch. Evolve or die.
I am not certain if Portugese traders were still allowed to trade with Japan when you hit the Tokugawa isolationist period, but up to 1600, Portugese traders were totes a common occurrence.
I’m just saying, the man needs a plan.
Ricardo: “United States who? No seriously, wtf are you talking about?”
I’m relieved to know you would site No Need for Bushido as a legitimate information source on any Japanese historical essays you plan on writing.
Hey just have fun with History. You can make things turn out COMPLETELY DIFFERENT. If it suits you.
Masuhiro shut Ken up with logic? What black magic is this?!
It was very difficult to draw Ken looking anything but angry, I assure you!
*history of japan voice
And so the Wataro were going to wipe out the daisuke but then Genchu was like “No Dont do that if you have Boshido then you should leave them alone.”
But then the Daimyo was like:” HOW BOUT I DO ANYWAY.”
“with JESUS!”
“and GUNS!”
I never thought anyone could shut up Ken without the use of a battering ram/tree trunk to the face.
Or a Nataku to the face, or a Chinese monk to the face?
I would argue that in this series they are essentially the same thing 😉
I’d strongly encourage a tree/cho/nataku alliance to fulfill any and all treevengeance related aspirations.
Sadly Nataku is too antisocial to accept a fusion of them into one ultimate Ken silencing being.
I think a Yumiko to the face would be the most effective.
She’s a tree.
*inside Masuhiro’s head*
“Keep looking forwards”
“Do not engage female ninja with cleavage”
“mmmm cleavage”
“NO NO Focus! Focus on the angry kid! Come up with another Melon of wisdom”
“Melon of wisdom? What… NO! You’re thinking about Melons!”
I dunno how anyone keeps their cool around that red haired vixen.
I know how Cho does it.
“A frog on the roof is not concerned with the melons, for the taste of chocolate distracts if from the flies… or the fact that it is a roadkill.”
In other words, he doesn’t even know she’s female. Oh the bliss of unawareness…
To the list of Masuhiro’s personalities I’d add that of a trendsetter (seriously, why doesn’t everyone wear maroon armor?), masochist (he married Ina’s mother, right? … oh well, maybe he didn’t have a choice, it’s feudal Japan after all… oh wait, but he could have run away or something to avoid it, but he didn’t), stalker (all those situations when he runs into well endowed, barely dressed up women can’t be a coincidence, right? It’s all his plan all along!)… oh and his secret gamer identity where he’s a max level World of GoCraft player, putting even uncle Yuki to shame…
Do not underestimate the power of Yukizane’s gamer cred.
“If you only knew the POWAH of the Dork Side!” 😈
Still like the comic but lots of things that wouldn’t happen in feudal japan. The touching him for one, isn’t that a big no no in most instances?
If you’ve put up with our wacky nonsense Japan to this point, I’m betting you’re in it for the long haul!
Well, he looks baffled enough for me to think it a fitting reaction for inadequate body contact, and I don’t think she gives anything about the local customs.
Isn’t she somehow from some other place/time/universe/comic?
You’re complaining about the historical accuracy of Feudal Japan in a webcomic that uses Bushido in the title? Ha! (see http://www.tofugu.com/japan/bushido/ )
This is pretty much an alternate world story to begin with. Assuming it’s not all a computer gameholodeck simulationetc. (or whatever the whole Matrix plotline is about).
That’s a great way to get Ken to kill Ina’s boyfriend just to prove a point… question is, is the greatest living tactician in Japan doing this intentionally or not?
I’d say Ken isn’t so petty that he would murder someone for no other reason than to be contrary, but, well, maybe.
“You seem wise enough not to kill Yori”
“STOP CALLING ME WISE YOU ****”
*kills Yori*
… yup, totally plausible.
And then Ina kills Ken and the Wataro ultimately win the war.
So, does that mean Matrix loses her bet?
*punches Suburban_Samurai into the air*
“THAT’S FOR SAYIN’ I AIN’T CONTRARY ENOUGH TO KILL SOMEONE JUST TO BE CONTRARY!”
*sits down*
“So, what’s ‘contrary’ mean?”
Didn’t matrix have bigger boobies before?
One wonders if that is more or less of a concern to you than the historical inaccuracy!
What day/time does thia comic usually get updated with a new page?
Shadow, the comic updates Sunday nights, usually between 9pm and 12am.
Hey thanks bro! I’ve seen some of your comments, and it seems like you’re one of the creators. Are you?
That’s right! I’m Alex, the artist and co-creator. Joe is the primary writer, although we collaborate on the script, and he also maintains the site.
That’s sweet man, thanks for replying! I’m a new can, but I’ve really enjoyed your guy’s work. I can’t wait for tonight’s page!
Well, after an archive run of epic proportions, I am sadly all caught up with this. I was an early follower, then stopped during the hiatus, and just recently discovered that you resumed updating. This was one of my favourites, and if anything, it has gotten better. Nice work.
I’m really glad you found us again, Roborat!
His face is so long and pointy.
Yeah, what was with that? You can hurt somebody that way.
