Addressing him as shounen may just mean that Murasaki-san doesn’t know his name, like someone calling a kid boy (it’s not likely that a samurai would bother learning the name of every peasant in the village, especially not the children).
Or it could just be a weird custom in this area to name people after some really obvious feature: Murasaki-san is named after the color he always wears (murasaki=purple).
